Take 1

The story is about a little wave, bobbing along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He's enjoying the wind and the fresh air - until he notices the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shore.
' "My God, this is terrible," the wave says. "Look what's going to happen to me!"
"Then along comes another wave. It sees the first wave, looking grim, and it says to him, "Why do you look so sad?"
"The first wave says, "You don't understand We're all going to crash! All of us waves are going to be nothing! Isn't it terrible?"
"The second wave says, "No, you don't understand. You're not a wave, you're part of the ocean."
-Tuesdays with Morrie

Take 2

I once met a woman in Kyoto, Japan, who explained to me the concept of goen. Goen means a chance and passing meeting between two people, which nonetheless is meaningful for both. That's what my meeting with this woman was-- I still think about her frequently, and I wonder if she thinks about me.

Because of her, I know there's always something to be learned, even in the most unlikely places.

Take 3

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts." -Mark Twain

Take 4

A young man walked along the seashore at low tide, and found himself surrounded by hundreds upon hundreds of beached starfish. Further down the beach was another man, carefully picking up starfish and tossing them back into the ocean. The young man asked him what he was doing, and he said, "Saving the starfish." Looking around, the young man saw that there were too many starfish to save, and that it was an impossible task for one man. When he said so, the other man replied by bending down, picking up another starfish, and tossing it back into the ocean. He looked at the young man and said, "I made a difference to that one."

Take 5

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined." - Henry David Thoreau

Take 6

If you let a drop of water fall in a pond, it makes ripples. No one can change the world all at once, but everyone can be that water drop. Everyone affects the world around them. I'm sending this to all of you, and all of you can send it on to your friends and family, and they can send it on from there. Maybe you know someone this wouldn't reach, because they don't have a computer, or because they don't know how to read. Maybe that person would appreciate it if you read some of this to them. And maybe then the ripple I've started will travel just that much farther.

Think of a change you want to make in the world, and undertake it step by step, drip by drip. Pretty soon we'll have the whole world thinking.
