Trick or Treat! Well, the Turks tricked and Soldier treated, but in the end Avalanche came away with the candy haul. They win the trophy this week with 10 points.

This week's prompt is #121 - Bulwer-Lytton

This week, you may write any type of drabble you like, but there is a twist. You must write it in the style of Bulwer-Lytton!

So, throw together your best dramatic flair, your redundancies, your confusing sentences and run-on sentences, you know, the ones that don't make sense in one reading but hit you like a freight train in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep but can't because of how much caffeine that you had in the early hours before the chiming of the clock at the strike of twelve.

Write us a dark and stormy night at the Seventh Heaven or ShinRa headquarters or the strange little spaces that the Turks call home but don't admit to for all the cockroaches running in the walls like mice on a quest for peanut butter. Or hit us with a battle between foes so vengeful that you wouldn't think their feud would even make it to the battlefield.

Regardless of the scene that you paint, not with oils and acrylics that tend to dry out before you get off your lazy ass to use them, but with the words well crafted like that of a frenzied fan fiction writer that has had too much Mountain Dew, write us a drabble in the manner of Bulwer-Lytton. Give us your worst (and by happenstance, your best) in just 100 words.

Author's Note: A bit more Dia de las Muertas than Halloween, but enh.

Dusk, and two candles burned side by side in the church window. Cloud lit a third and set it in its holder by the others, a silver taper too-tall and awkward beside the black and pink pillars already spilling their light generously over the sill.

Harvest Night was supposed to be the night when ghosts walked the world to visit their loved ones. Cloud was not superstitious, but he knew better than most that hope came in strange forms. He kept his vigil by candlelight, and in their glow imagined that his own loved ones were coming to see him.

What a good round! We were graced with some really wonderful fiction and art. Congratulations for a job well done.

Today, I bring you the community time-line:

This month (November) - the community will remain open for any of you that lost momentum during the October round or just had life careen into you at top speed - you may certainly post any late fic that you're still planning to write this month. I am sure the readers won't mind. I will just add them onto the November Fic/Art List as they are posted (which hopefully will be posted this coming week).

December - I will post a list of the retiring prompts. Feel free to grab these at will - no claiming needed - and post the finished work to the community by December 31.

January - we will start another prompting session for the short February round. Feel free to start thinking up your prompts now! ^_^

Couple of things to read before you post:

1) PLEASE spell out your fandom completely and characters correctly. There's a very good chance I won't know them.

2) PLEASE use proper capitalization and number notation (roman numerals for the most part).

Things that don't conform to the above will make me cranky, and you will likely end up with your prompts ignored.

I will stop taking prompts after I wake up Wednesday November 4th, which is usually 5:30am-ish EDT. Then they'll be sorted and posted by the other co-mod for you to write on.

So my boss got bitched out today by our DM on my behalf. Because even though I'm suppose to be spending 35 hours a week in my department, I've only been getting 32-33 hours a week and two-three days are spent on register, which means that my back room is not in the shape it should be.

And we got a truck today and I had four buggies of stuff outside my apparel room and DM shows up and says "What's all this?! D: D: D:" Dude, we just had a massive truck, you stupid fucktard, this is my freight. You know. The shit that I've got to get out, even though you want me to get all of the fall/winter shit clearance that's packed up?

I am displeased, guys. VERY DISPLEASED. I've got 40 hours next week (because this is how it goes: payroll is cut back again. And again, and again. We get behind. DM shows up and is unhappy. Gives us better payroll for a couple of weeks. Then payroll is cut again. I think you get it). Unfortunately, on Saturday (HALLOWEEEEEN~) I have to work 8-5. I was going to dress up but, uh, guess not. My costume is too hot to wear and work for that long. :(

However, NaNoWriMo starts in a couple of days and I'm feeling ALRIGHT.

Starting November 1st, the next round of Porn Battles will start. Once again we will ask for your prompts to be thrown out there for smutty minds to snap up and churn out porny gems for everyone's enjoyment.

SO start writing those prompts out, find a few from previous battles that you want to see written and throw them up.

Remember, all prompts in the top comment slot so they'll be found. If you think of some after you've posted, then post again. There's nothing that says you can only post once. In fact, we'll love you more if you post more.

*deep breath* Right, so I've now officially told my supervisor, the Graduate counselor and the future head of the department that I'm not going to try and get into a PhD program next year. I've been dithering about this for... months now, good god, so I'm glad I've finally made a decision. I even think it's the right decision too, though I still kinda feel like I'm wimping out. *sheepish* I'm sure I'll feel better about it soon?

And in slightly better more interesting topics, I may just possibly have written something for the newest issue of Shousetsu Bang Bang - an online original yaoi fiction journal. I'm mostly happy with it? Another few days to edit would probably have helped (school!), but considering it's the first complete piece of original fiction I've done in a long time, it's a pretty good start.
